Painting the Dwarf Ranger
I painted this mini for one of the players in my D&D campaign. It was missing a hand when it arrived, so I had to get creative. I ended up replacing the hand with a skull, which immediately gave the character an unexpected piece of backstory.
The project took three days to complete. Apart from the missing hand, everything went as planned. The miniature was fairly straightforward to paint and would be an approachable project for someone with some basic miniature-painting experience.

Materials
- Miniature: Dwarven Mountaineers of Skutagaard, Artisan Guild
- Army Painter and Vallejo acrylic paints
- Material: 3D-printed resin
- Army Painter washes

Techniques
- Priming the mini in gray.
- Applying basecoats to the areas that needed different colors.
- Kitbashing a skull as a replacement for the missing hand.
- Applying a wash to deepen the shadows and add definition.
Painting and Kitbashing the Ranger
I took a few photos during the project that show the main steps: priming, basecoating, painting the details, and adding a wash for shading.
The miniature was missing a hand when it arrived, but that turned out to be a good thing. Replacing it with a skull made the character more distinctive and gave him a story to tell.
